[COMING YOUR WAY SOON]: A fun, a rewarding, but extremely time-consuming art project by way of 25 hand-painted LP covers will be set free upon the world. A little bit of xerox-art, a bit of spray paint and stencils, a whole lotta acrylic paint, and even a bit of Sharpie pen just to keep it real. They will be numbered by PIAPTK Records back in Arizona, plus a bunch of other goodies added on for these Limited Edition Test Pressing versions. The regular versions with be available too, in 2 different vinyl color choices.
“Now just hold up here, what record is this?” you might be asking yourself. Well this here one is called Jason Lytle ‘Music To Accompany The Art Of Ron Cameron’. Originally released back in 2010 on CD only Ltd. Ed. 500, they came and went fast. Now being re-issued on Wax for the first time ever. Enjoy!

Oh yeah: they will be sold mostly online or at the upcoming Grandaddy Tour (Software Slump 25th Anniversary), and Amoeba Music Hollywood will be stocking copies too, …if you’re like me and would rather pick up records in the physical world.

This was one of the albums from 1996 to search out, on Berkeley’s Slumberland Records of course. I’ve always kinda liked The Clash, how about you? I didn’t discover them until 1980/1981, but ever since I’ve always liked all their various open-minded musical changes, what they stood for, their design ethic, etc… Isn’t it great when people get together, work hard, stick to it, and create something that inspires people around the world for years and decades later?

[R.I.P. Bob Newhart]: I somehow ended up with the majority of Jonathan Winters’ personal record collection back about 10 years ago. In his collection he had a couple Bob Newhart LPs that Bob had personally signed to Jon on the back. This is one of them, the less personal one. Too bad it was in the section of his collection that ended up in his Montecito basement that suffered water damage. Never the less - it’s amazing to see one comedian’s interaction with another right when they both first started releasing comedy LPs in 1960. Both also ended up being beyond legends in the comedy world. (Eileen was Jon’s wife).

OK - I went out last night. Redd Kross @reddkross live in Pioneertown @pappyandharriets . AND with Dale Crover @drcrover from The Melvins @melvinsdotcom on guest drums for the tour! A whole lot of O @otisserie memories going on here for me because he was buddies with all of the above names and locations. I actually had a really good time, thanks to Mike Parente and Chris Hollas @texasjaysus for successfully pulling off the near impossible feat of “dragging Ron out of the house”!
I haven’t seen Redd Cross since the early or mid 1990s, they still rip and put on a great show. Great blend of Power Pop, Grunge, Alt Rock, Pop-Sike, Garage Rock, Punk, and of course a KISS cover! Fun was had by all…

[NOW PLAYING]: Today’s studio tunes - all day - Sigur Rós (English translation: “Victory Rose”). A great mellow change of pace… I was really into this Icelandic band around 2000-2003, so that means a lot of RVCA designs were created with some of these LPs and EPs playing in the background… For me this was like a new substitute for Spiritualized. Still holds up very well, especially because most of it is sung in a made-up language. Timeless angelic ambience. 🕊

Look what I stumbled on during channel surfing during dinner tonight - on a cable channel - in the USA! If this would have come on network TV back in 1987 I would have lost my fookin’ mind. !!! Originally broadcast as an exclusive to The Africa Channel back in 2012. I had no idea this even existed, and I’m still pretty up on all things Mutabaruka (not as much as I was back in the ‘80s ‘90s, but hey). Track it down find it enjoy it. He recites poetry, goes in to his origins, his influences (especially Marcus Garvey), talks about touring back then, etc…

R.I.P. Gary Floyd.
Pick up the phone, get in the car, don’t put friends off. Here is the last photo Gary texted to me, and the last text messages between us. Way back around New Years. (I did talk to him on the phone a few months ago real quick, but put off a better phone call time until….?). These life lessons have been hitting me very hard over the past few years. I get SO tired of so many people posting messages like “hold your friends tight, take time, life is fleeting, etc…”. But it’s so damn true.

[GO SEE THIS PHOTO/ART SHOW!!!]: Ed Templeton “Wires Crossed” whole-building installation is up for 4 months at Long Beach Museum Of Art. This is no small feat and congrats to @ed.templeton for getting this much deserved attention for his non-stop dedication to his art for over 3 decades now! Most of the photos are based around the crazy life of being on skateboarding tours roughly 1995-2005. I’m even in a few of the photos on display. Do yourself a favor - don’t miss this - one of the few occurrences of our odd weird skate culture getting some MAJOR exposure, and maybe even *respect*? (Group photos are with some of my 1990s Huntington Beach homies @omarhassan @dickemotion @remystratton during to Opening Night festivities).

I randomly found this Screaming Trees LP back around 1987 or 1988 when I was trying to find ANY modern ‘60s “psychedelic” stuff to help me create better Blockhead Skateboards designs right after high school in Sacramento. This cover had that great “photo-negative” effect in bright contrast colors so that sold me. Plus the name “Screaming Trees” sounded kinda trippy. Little did I know this 1986 album was one of the first records from the beginning of the Seattle/Washington “grunge” movement that was about to explode internationally a few years later, right after I’d moved to SoCal at the beginning of 1989 (Oceanside/Carlsbad/Bonsall). (Que: Sub Pop, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Green River). Because of being roommates with @gnarcake “O” and @mikivuckovich Miki, …both Mudhoney *and* Nirvana crashed at our condo during tours. Fun memories in the wild frontier…

[SK8 PARTY MIX!!!]: ‘N-Men - The Untold Story’ producer director James Sweigert asked me to ‘select’ and curate a whole crap-load of tunes for the movie premiere after-party in downtown Sacramento last June 2023. Recorded off-desk this DJ set includes way over 2 hours of tunes that directly reflect the Sacto Skate Scene (or “Sacto Skate Damage” as some have called it) roughly between 1975-1985. A lot of these tunes were blasting from speakers at Sierra Wave or boom boxes at ramps and ditches when lots of crazy shit went down back then and there! There’s a lot of “inside jokes” or “site specific” tunes tucked in there too (that people outside of that scene might not “get” but will enjoy the sounds anyway!). Great for getting geared up before or after watching the film, skate sessions near wi-fi, work background music, or a long drive!!! Enjoy the ride! Spread the SOUND!!!

[INSPIRATION - WAY BACK]: This takes me back to 1987 during my senior year at @encinahigh and I picked up this LP at The Beat because I’d seen a piece on the band @fetchinbonesrock on MTV 120 Mintues, and I dug the song “Chicken Truck”. I thought the two guys on far right and far left of the back of the album cover had it all figured out fashion-wise! On left was what I thought of as the “Sacto Look”. On the right was the “Psychedelic Look”, which in 1987 I was desperately trying to figure out EVERYTHING about all things “psychedelic” to help with designs for @blockhead_skateboards . I could tell these people were thrift store MASTERS! Score! I was jealous and inspired at the same time.
